Breast Surgery
What to Expect
Every year, nearly 200,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer. The older you get, the higher the risk becomes. Your family history of breast cancer also can be a risk factor. But if you’re diagnosed, it doesn’t mean your life is over. We offer some of the latest treatments at River Oaks Hospital & Clinics, and these modern procedures and treatment methods are much easier on you than those in the past. Some can even be performed as an outpatient procedure, which allows you to go home the same day.
Early Detection
The most important thing to remember about breast cancer is that the sooner it’s detected, the better your outcome will be. Breast imaging through mammograms are the first line of defense. Every woman between the age of 35 and 40 should start getting an annual screening mammogram and continue yearly after that.
If your mammogram shows something irregular, we will perform a minimally invasive biopsy, taking a very small sample of tissue to screen for cancer. Minimally invasive procedures we offer include:
- Breast lumpectomy
- 3D breast tomography
- Breast ultrasound
- Needle localization
- Stereotactic biopsy
- Ultrasound guided biopsy
